Why I Started a Personal Blog at age 23

I’ve always enjoyed writing since I was a kid. I at least enjoyed it more than talking. To be honest with you, I never felt like I needed to share my ideas and thoughts in a platform like this. I wasn’t even following any blog. (I loved reading articles on medium.com and getpocket.com). Then, I eventually thought, why not give it a try.

You might be thinking that: Dude, who cares about your personal blog, who will bother to read it? The answer is simple: absolutely no one. I know no one cares about my personal blog. If you start a personal blog right now, unless you are a public figure and have audience from other platforms, no one will care about yours either. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that it will be this way 10 years, 5 years, or even 2 years from now. The most important thing here is to be consistent, patient and to keep in mind that there is a reason to have a personal blog.

I came across the idea of having an audience and building relationships. It just differentiates you from others. Also, it expands your network. Let’s say you have 500 connections. That means you have 500 people to ask for advice. That also means you have more than 500 people to sell your products or services, assuming your connections’ connections will know about your services as well. I don’t own a business right now, doesn’t mean I will never do. But having connections is not only useful for people who run their own businesses. It would probably help you when you are looking for a job, it might also help you expand your interests in terms of your career and your personal life. For example, you might have someone in your network who trains at a boxing gym. He/she might drag you into boxing, and you might end up loving it. Now you have a hobby that you love, because of your connection. This might be an extreme and a simple example, but I’m hoping that you get the main idea.

I’m planning to write one blogpost per week, and will try to keep doing it at least for a year. Then I will be able to see what results I have, if I want to keep writing, and what I learnt from posting weekly on my personal blog. I’m excited to see how I keep up with this.
